International talk show queen Oprah Winfrey is set to become godmother to singer Beyonce Knowles’s daughter Blue Ivy Carter.

According to showbizspy.com, the 30-year-old and husband Jay-Z have reportedly been thinking of whom to give charge of giving spiritual guidance to their 19-day-old daughter. They chose Winfrey, along with the rapper’s best friend Tyran Smith.

A somber painting by a Dutch master that used to hang over a fireplace in the California home of the late film star Elizabeth Taylor sold Wednesday for $2.01 million, Christie’s said.

The winning bid in New York more than doubled pre-sale estimates of $700,000 to $1 million, mirroring frenzied competition for Taylor’s vast wardrobe and jewelry collection which sold for $156.8 million in December at Christie’s.

Madonna walked the red carpet in a star-studded premiere for her drama, “W.E.” in NYC last night, and addressed the Elton John/David Furnish feud after she won the Golden Globe for Best Song. Madonna said, “You know what, honestly, I was oblivious to it all. It was brought to my attention afterwards and I don’t… I just keep going and don’t pay no mind to things like that.”

Madge recalled her emotional moment at the Globes, saying, “I was really surprised, I have to say. I always say, ‘Don’t expect to win and if you do, you’re pleasantly surprised.’”

On Day 3 of the Jaipur Literature Festival, of which TOI is one of the key sponsors, it seemed as if the whole of Jaipur had got up early to greet and meet Oprah Winfrey. When we tried to reach Diggi Palace, we saw a line of about 500 people at the red light outside the venue.

While most people were annoyed and exasperated that they would miss Oprah’s session, there were some who had no clue who she was. We overheard a girl asking her friend, ‘Ok, so wasn’t Oprah in some movie about girl power or something?’After an hour long scuffle, coupled with begging and pleading, we did manage to get inside the palace, only to make peace with a packed house and Oprah’s voice.
