Britney Spears is no stranger to surprise nuptials.

So when sources confirmed to E! News that the newly engaged pop star and her hubby-to-be Jason Trawick are set to celebrate their happy news with a party in Las Vegas tonight, suspicions were naturally raised—could they possibly be bypassing a very long engagement and simply getting the deed done during their weekend in Sin City?

After all, it wouldn’t be the first time for Britney. So, will wedding bells be ringing sooner than anyone thinks?

Nope! Spears has clearly learned from her impulsive past, and a source close to Spears tells E! News that a Britney-Jason wedding “is not happening anytime soon.”

The source added that Britney is in no rush to walk down the aisle—not to mention, it might take a little more time to sort out the legal complications inherent in the 30-year-old still remaining under conservatorship. However, that little detail has been described as “an issue” rather than any serious impediment or threat to their marriage.

Way to turn things around, Britney. Congrats!

Shocking. Simply shocking.

No, not that the ever-outraged Parents Television Council has once again saddled up its highest horse and decided to protest the Billboard Music Awards after deeming Rihanna and Britney Spears’ opening number particularly scandalous, but that the organization waited nearly two whole days before attempting to get their names back in the headlines.

Oops. We mean, before voicing their outrage in a widely disseminated press release.

“What happened in Vegas should have stayed in Vegas, as the saying goes,” the PTC’s president and resident wit master Tim Winter said in a statement. “It certainly has no place at 8:00 p.m. on the publicly-owned broadcast airwaves.”

“I cannot imagine what would possibly lead the ABC television network to air a profanity-laced, S&M sex show on primetime broadcast television. The overtly sexualized performance by Rihanna and Britney Spears was no accident or mishap, but a deliberate effort to target teens with images and lyrics that glamorize whips, chains and other sexual fantasies.

Right. Few things here: we’re not sure what button Winter activated on his remote, but the performance was profanity-free. Unless for some reason the PTC thinks the word “sex” is a profanity. And while the performance was sexualized, that’s hardly surprising given that the song itself is called “S&M.” And nevermind that it was scaled back by about 200 notches from the music video version of the tune.

What the PTC really seems to have taken issue with here—and what to them seems to constitute an “overtly sexualized performance” is a pillow fight between the singers toward the end of the song—which isn’t actually with each other, but rather playfully (and, if we could play critic, fairly half-heartedly done) against their backup dancers, and  a tiny smooch they give each other at the end of the performance.

ABC isn’t talking, but it’s unclear if the kiss was edited out of the feeds, or if the peck, which took place after the song ended and was clearly not an intended part of the performance, was too spontaneous to have actually caught on camera (viewers were instead treated to a cut to the cheering audience) or if they purposely cut away. It’s also unclear if the performance itself has garnered any viewer complaints.

It’s also unclear if the kiss was anything to get excited about in the first place. Though headlines quickly dubbed it a girl-on-girl kiss, and labeled it as a Britney-Rihanna makeout sesh, photos of the incident seem to prove otherwise, as it appears that Rihanna simply grabbed Britney’s face after they finished performing and planted a big wet one…on her cheek.

How very scandalous.

In any case, it would explain why neither Britney nor Rihanna have commented on the incident—namely, because there’s nothing to comment on. Besides, if the kiss were actually planned, you’d expect it to be (a) more original (shades of Madonna 2003, anyone?) or (b) actually titillating.

Still, the Parents Television Council is plowing ahead regardless, and asking fellow parents to contact ABC-Disney as well as advertisers Chevrolet, Old Navy and McDonald’s to ask if the performance reflects their image.

Better luck with that indignation next time, PTC. The problem with blind outrage is that sometimes it makes it hard to actually see.

It’s been a long road back to the top for Britney Spears. The pop diva, so successful through the late 90′s and much of the first decade of the new century, fell apart in 2008: at the beginning of that year, she was hospitalized and put on a mental hold, under the influence of drugs and a crippling relationship with ex-husband Kevin Federline and their children.

With the help of her parents — who still have her under conservatorship — she’s rebuilt her career under a new manager, boyfriend Jason Trawick. But her ex-manager, Sam Lutfi, is less than pleased about how he’s been portrayed during the journey back, and is suing Spears’ mom, Lynne, for defamation. Spears’ parents claimed that Lutfi used to drug Spears and harassed her post-breakdown.

Lutfi wants his one-time client to testify in the court case, but according to Billboard, her parents are claiming that she is “mentally incapable” of doing so.

Lufti, who is under the command of a restraining order to stay away from Spears, says that claim is bogus. He had an expert witness analyze a Spears interview with Ryan Seacrest and an MTV documentary, with the witness submitting to the court that, from what he can tell, Spears is more than capable of testifying to the court:

“In the Ryan Seacrest interview, which was recorded approximately two months ago, Britney Spears is interviewed at length, and she responds logically and coherently to questions, evidencing logical thinking and mental competency. The edited interviews in the [MTV] video documentary also evidence coherent and logical thinking, responsiveness to questions, and mental competence … In my opinion, there is good cause to conduct an Independent Medical Examination to investigate the Conservators’ claim that Ms. Spears is not mentally capable of testifying, and the claim that she was not mentally competent to enter into a binding contract. …”

Spears is now a publicly facing pop star once again, with custody over her children, so perhaps Lutfi’s claim is correct — she may be facing taking a mental exam to find out. Either way, it’s a painful reminder of a highly covered breakdown, one that Spears more than likely would like the public to forget.

In a more positive development, Spears recently released a star-studded remix of her song, “Til the World Ends,” featuring Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha.

Rihanna is sexy, single and ready to mingle!

The red-hot singer was a guest of honor at last night’s DKMS charity gala and made it clear that she’s really loving her solo status since her split with Matt Kemp. “Who doesn’t enjoy being single?!” she saucily shot back when asked what her favorite part of being unattached is.

Cheers to that, girlfriend! And although she’s unattached as of late in the romantic sense, she did discuss her quickie hookup with another major celebrity…

Get your minds out of the gutters! We’re talking about her collaboration with Britney Spears.

The two pop divas recently teamed up for a remix of RiRi’s song S&M. “We just decided we wanted to do it and we got in the studio and we did it in an hour and a half!” she told reporters inside Cipriani’s Wall Street last night.

Although Rihanna was being honored last night at benefit for her work with the leukemia charity, she got to enjoy a performance instead of putting on one herself, for once.

Mary J. Blige sang inside the soiree while Solange Knowles DJ’d for a chic crowd that included Leighton Meester, Eva Mendes and Pharrell Williams.

Next up for Rihanna: she’s launching her Reb’l Fleur fragrance this afternoon at Macy’s in Herald Square.

“I’m looking forward to having my fans wear it and love it and smell like me!” she told reporters.

As for why she decided to dye her locks such a bright and crazy hue?

“Because red is badass!” she replied. Indeed!

Britney Spears has been forced to change the location of her mini-concert next week.

The ‘Hold It Against Me’ singer was due to perform at an outdoor venue in San Francisco’s Castro district on March 27 to celebrate the release of her seventh studio album.

The show is to be taped and broadcast on Good Morning America on March 29.

It has now been confirmed that the location has been moved indoors due to health and safety fears concerning rain.

“Due to the inclement weather forecast for this Sunday in San Francisco, Good Morning America’s exclusive Britney Spears performance will be moved indoors to the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium to protect the safety of the performers, crew and fans,” the ABC network announced.

Her manager Adam Leber posted a photo of the newly-created indoor set, complete with raised platforms, with the caption: “Just a small taste of what’s to come…”

The singer has currently finished shooting the video for new single ‘Till The World Ends’. It was recently reported that backing dancers for the video had to undergo alcohol and drug tests before being hired.

Femme Fatale is due to be released March 28 in the UK and March 29 in the US.

The Grammy Awards are still a little over a month away, and rumors about performers are starting to surface everywhere online.

On Tuesday, Lady Gaga’s choreographer, Laurieann Gibson, Tweeted, “Grammy meeting performance extrodinaire..!!! On it’s way…TeamBoomkack.” She followed up with another Tweet, writing, “Yes,” when asked by a follower if she was hinting about a Grammy performance by the “Born This Way” singer.

Earlier this week Perez Hilton reported that Britney Spears was performing at the Grammys also surfaced, but a rep for the pop star told Us Weekly that the “Hold It Against Me” singer would not be performing. Access Hollywood has seen photos, however, of the pop princess heading into a dance studio for what are reportedly rehearsals.

Grammy reps previously told Access Hollywood, “Until a press release is issued by The Recording Academy, there are no performers or presenters confirmed.”

The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards will take place live on CBS on Sunday, February 13, 2011 (note: Lady Gaga has announced that her new single will be released that same day).
