Russell Brand is interested in dating Zooey Deschanel, according to reports.

The comedian, who filed for divorce from his singer wife Katy Perry at the end of last year, is said to want to embark on a romance with the New Girl actress, who split from husband Ben Gibbard at around the same time.

Brand has reportedly already been sending Deschanel “flirty” texts, and apparently thinks that the pair would get on well together.

An insider told OK: “Russell has had his eye on Zooey for a long time. And he’s been sending funny, flirty texts to see if they can get together.

“He thinks she’s hysterically funny and cute, too. He loves her quirky sense of humour, and thinks they’d be great together both on-and off-screen. There’s a real spark there.”

Perry was recently reported to have been comforted by ex-boyfriend and Gym Class Heroes frontman Travie McCoy following the breakdown of her marriage.

Russell Brand has filed for divorce from popstar wife, Katy Perry. TMZ reports that the comedian filed the divorce papers in Los Angeles, citing irreconcilable differences for the dissolution of their marriage. The pair tied the knot in October of 2010 at an intimate ceremony in India.

Rumors that the couple’s relationship was on the rocks have been catching wind for some time and were further fueled after the pair spent the holidays apart. Perry jetted off to Hawaii with friends for the Christmas holiday while Brand stayed in London’s West End. On Thursday, Brand was even spotted without his wedding ring and Perry was similarly seen on the beach in Hawaii sans one very important piece of jewelry.

“Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage,” Brand said, according to AP wires. “I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.”

Brand told Ellen Degenres just weeks ago that his marriage to Perry was going strong. “I am really happily married,” Brand explained on the show.

TMZ also conjectures that Brand’s filing of the divorce papers could have been a complete shock to Perry based on the legal documents obtained.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand spent Christmas 7,000 miles apart.

The ‘Last Friday Night’ singer went to Hawaii for a vacation in a private villa with friends, while the comic actor spent December 25 in Cornwall, South West England.

Russell, 36, had lunch in a pub in Coverack village and then attended his comedian friend David Baddiel’s charity swim where he was mobbed by fans and happily posed for pictures.

The 27-year-old pop star was spotted surfing and frolicking in the sea and on the beach with friends.

The couple’s decision to spend the festive season apart has ignited rumours their 14 month marriage is in trouble.

However, Russell has previously insisted he and Katy are very happily married and intend to stay together “until death do us apart”.

Earlier this month, the ‘Arthur’ star – who tied the knot with Katy in India in October 2010 – said: “There are always rumours, aren’t there? In the end you have to just not engage with internet technology. I’ve treated the whole internet now like it’s a wicked little liar. I am really happily married.

“Being famous is like a little bit of you is taken away and goes off and lives on its own and does what it wants. I wish it would do more interesting things. I don’t know what he’s doing, the other me, but I’m married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge – and I’m still alive.”

Katy Perry has revealed that she cannot wait to have children.

The singer, who married comedian Russell Brand in October 2010, said that having a family is important to her.

She told Elle: “I want to have kids! I’m totally fine with saying that. I think some people are worried it’s going to ruin their career, but I want to live a full life.”

The 26-year-old also explained that her relationship with Brand was fast-paced from the start.

She added: “Everything clicked really fast. We kind of instantly got past all the surfacey stuff. And ever since then, there hasn’t been a dull moment.”

According to the mag, the couple got engaged five days ago. A source said Russell, 34, proposed to the American singer, 25, with a ring.

She didn’t make any other reference to it, which seems to close the case entirely. The party was for 25-year-old actress Shannon Woodward, and it’s the second time that Perry and Pattinson have been in the same room for a Woodward birthday.
