It’s refreshing to see celebrities saying something nice about each other for a change.

Although they haven’t always been friends, former Disney stars Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato, must be getting along these days.

On Nov. 11, Miley used her celebrity status and hefty Twitter following, to speak out against the insane and dangerous expectations of beauty.

It isn’t clear exactly what prompted the rant, but the 18-year-old singer and actress first tweeted a photo of an emaciated women:

“By calling girls like me fat this is what you’re doing to other people. i love MYSELF & if you could say the same.”

Miley followed up that tweet by posting a photo of Marilyn Monroe with the words, “PROOF that you can be adored by thousands of men, even when your thighs touch.”

Lovato who has gained some weight in recent months, following treatment for an eating disorder, re-tweeted the photo and replied to Miley, writing: “AMEN!”

Something must have hit a nerve, because Miley passionately replied back:

“@ddlovato AMEN! I will destroy any one that ever calls you the F word. You have the SEXIIIESTTTT curvyyyy body! I LOVE IT! #werkthosecurves”

Demi seemed truly grateful for the kind words, and returned the compliment:

“@MileyCyrus god I love you. SO DO YOU!!! And whoever called you that has it coming. Miss you more than ever,” she wrote. “@MileyCyrus ps SO proud of you for posting that! #curvesareBEAUTIFUL”

The pressure for starlets like Demi and Miley to live up to societal expectations of beauty is intense, and it’s refreshing to see both of them speaking out against what is clearly a problem in Hollywood and rest of the world.

It’s estimated that up to 24 million Americans suffer from an eating disorder yet celebrities are constantly berated for changes in their physical appearance, even after acknowledging they are suffering from the disease.

Lovato became a trending topic on Twitter in August, when mean-spirited Twitter users commented on her post-rehab figure.

Rather than ignoring the mean tweets, Lovato stood up to the online bullies, tweeting:

“I’ve gained weight. Get over it. That’s what happens when you get out of treatment for AN EATING DISORDER.”

Miley Cyrus has criticised ‘Friday’ singer and Youtube sensation Rebecca Black.

In an interview with Australia’s Daily Telegraph, the former Hannah Montana actress said that online stars like Black should have to work harder for their success.

“It should be harder to be an artist,” Cyrus said when asked about Black’s success.

The 18-year-old added: “You shouldn’t just be able to put a song on YouTube and go on tour.”

Cyrus also explained why she does not interact with fans using social media.

“I do not tweet, I do not social network, I try to stay out of it,” she continued.

“I complain enough about people knowing too much about my private life, so to go out there and exploit myself would be silly and hypocritical.”

“I was kind of tired of telling everyone what I’m doing,” Cyrus says in an interview with Movieline. “I hate when I read things and celebrities are complaining, like, ‘I have no personal life.’ I’m like, well, that’s because you write everything that you’re doing.”

Cyrus — who quit Twitter at the request of beau and Last Song costar Liam Hemsworth, in October — says that while she was posting dozens of messages a day, she was “sad” about having “no real, normal life.” She says she was also annoyed that everyone knew what she was doing.

“I’m like, well, that’s my own fault because I’m telling everyone,” she says. “Everything I’m saying is not really going with what I’m putting on the Internet.”

Although she says she is “a little bit more social” and has “a lot more real friends” now that she’s not stuck Twittering, she still can’t avoid it entirely.

“I hang out with my friends and they’re so busy taking pictures of what they’re doing and putting them on Facebook that they’re not really enjoying what they’re doing,” she complains. “You’re going to look back and have a million pictures, but you’re not going to be in any of them. Because you’re not having fun, you’re too busy clicking away. So I think, just enjoy the moment you’re in, and stop telling people about it. Just enjoy it.”

Her advice for teens who are hooked on social networking sites?

“I’m telling kids, ‘Don’t go on the Internet,’” she says. “It’s dangerous, it’s not fun, it wastes your life. And you should be outside playing sports or something.”

The Hannah Montana star, who introduced the Black Eyed Peas at last night’s ceremony, told USA Today that she was donating her blue Herve Leger dress to raise money for the earthquake-devastated country.

“I’m going to auction it off on eBay afterward for the Red Cross. It’s the little things you can do,” she explained.

She also discussed her part in the upcoming charity remake of ‘We Are The World’, saying: “I think it’s really important that everybody come together because disaster relief isn’t just now. It’s how we’re going to help years from now.

“We have to restore an entire place. It just can’t be one person, one foundation, one group of people. All people have to come together and that’s what ‘We Are the World’ is all about. “

The 17-year-old sparked engagement rumors Thursday after she was spotted wearing what appeared to be an engagement ring.

The series, about a high school student who leads a secret life as a pop star, thrust teenager Cyrus – now 17 – into the spotlight when it began in 2006.

A big screen version of the show topped the US box office last year.

A Disney Channel executive said the series was expected “to wrap after shooting this new batch of episodes”.

The current season – which is reported to start shooting this month – is set to conclude in March 2011 with “a big one-hour event”.

“You never know in this business… but right now we’re scheduled to wrap after shooting,” Disney Channel’s Senior Vice President of Programming Adam Bonnett told the New York Post.

Cyrus, the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, launched a successful pop and film career off the back of the show.

She was recently named favourite breakout movie actress at the People’s Choice Awards, and stars in drama The Last Song later this year, as well as playing herself in the forthcoming Sex And The City sequel.
