Ke$ha Makes US Digital Sales History

Ke$ha made US digital sales history when her debut single “TiK ToK,” off the singer’s upcoming album Animal, was downloaded 610,000 times in the week ending December 27.  This was the highest number of digital singles sold by a female artist in one week, accroding to Nielsen SoundScan, which began tracking the data in 2003.

Christmas week traditionally sees a high volume of downloads, as new MP3 players and download cards are unwrapped in record numbers.

Ke$ha’s “TiK ToK” takes the spot for best-selling download by a female artist from Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance,” which sold 419,000 digital tracks exactly one year earlier.

In addition to the highest download for a female artist, “TiK ToK” is the second best-selling one-week digital track overall, following Flo Rida’s “Right Round,” which sold 636,000 tracks on the chart of February 28, 2009. Ke$ha also happened to provide non-credited vocals on “Right Round,” marking a breakthrough performance for the singer.

  1. This song “Tik Tok” was co-written by Kesha, Benny Blanco and Dr. Luke. The song was released digitally on August 7 and was sent to U.S. radio on 5, October 2009. This song was a commercial success worldwide and topped the official singles chart across borders of Australia, New Zealand and the biggest market for online music, United States. Without doubt it has reached the top ten in European Countries and within the top five in UK.

  2. Naturelover, isn’t that basically what the blog just said? Anyway, I’ve never even heard of this song. I will check it out on YouTube although some of these songs get too downloads yet are horrible. I won’t judge until I listen though.

  3. Just as I thought…I listened to this song on YouTube and it is pretty horrible. No offense to the fans out there but I see her as someone who makes a little change off this one song and then sinks into VH-1 One Hit Wonder oblivion
