Sacha Baron Cohen Hit With $114m Lawsuit

Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen is being sued for £70million ($114m) in libel damages over his film Bruno.

Ayman Abu Aita, a Palestinian grocer and peace activist from Bethlehem, says the depiction of him in the movie has ruined his life.

In Bruno, Cohen’s gay character claims to travel to the Ein El-Hilweh refugee camp in Lebanon to meet a leader of the Al-Aqsa Brigades. A caption describes Abu Aita as ‘Terrorist group leader, Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade’.

In fact, the scene was filmed at a well-known hotel on the outskirts of Bethlehem in the West Bank in an area under Israeli control.

On American TV last July Cohen told talkshow host Letterman his production team found this ‘real terrorist’ through a CIA contact.

The father of four says says he has since received death threats, he is a firm opponent of terrorists, and that he was tricked into meeting Cohen, thinking he was a German producing a film about the Palestinian cause.

  1. It was a funny movie but he kinda deserves this lawsuit

  2. Sacha Baron Cohen is a popular comedian and in his film Bruno comedy is the main food. It is difficult to accept that he is such a mischievous person. He has taken advantage of the miserable situation of the Palestinian people and with the assistance of infamous CIA he has used Ayman Abu Aita whom he has claimed as ‘real terrorist’. Cohen has done great damage to the life and living of Ayman Abu Aita who is in real life a grocer and peace activist in Bethlehem. Cohen should bite dust in the court of law.

  3. I enjoyed all the comedy movies which Mr. Cohen has done and the Bruno is also one of them but if proven that Mr. Cohen has done something illegal and proven that he is guilty with this law suit then maybe he deserves it.
